My Passion for People

Hello there, explorer!

In my brief introduction on my About Me page, I talked a little bit about how important people are to me. I want to showcase some of the things that bring me joy in my life, the biggest of these being people!

One of the biggest things I do at the University of Mary Washington is run bingo for the campus programming board! I have been going to bingo ever since I was a Freshman, and it always provided a wonderful space for me and my friends to hang out once a week on Tuesdays from 8 to 9 PM. I soon started to help run bingo by making the playlists every week and running AV, but then was soon nominated to be Bingo Chair. Running bingo has been one of my favorite things to do on campus, but not just for the funny jokes. What matters most to me is the people; I have seen so many friendships built because of bingo. There are regulars that I know by name who have become some of my closest friends. And it’s also a break for me during my week to have fun and put on a fun event for people. Bingo has been such a large part of my journey at UMW, and I am so glad that it is a part of others as well.

Along with running Bingo and being able to foster that community of connections, I am also able to make connections in my other commitments on campus, like in my Senior Orientation Coordinator position for New Student Programs. Orientation has been my heart and soul of my time here at Mary Washington. I first started as an Orientation Leader in 2023, where I was able to meet some of my best friends, who I am still in touch with to this day. The next year, I became an Orientation Coordinator, where I was able to be on the same team as two of my best friends whom I had met the year prior. And finally, up to this year, as the Senior Orientation Coordinator where I was challenged like no other year, being the only student staff on the team. Through these years, I have been able to explore my passions in student affairs and find my future in careers such as these. It has also opened up many opportunities, such as being able to MC for the President’s Welcome twice in a row, beside my best friends, Amira and Ashley, whom I had met during my time being an OL in 2023.

Now I know I have been talking a lot about my work and how I connect with people there. Surely in my personal time, I would take a break from people, right? You would be wrong! In my spare time, one of my favorite things to do is go to concerts, which are filled with tons of people. The best part about concerts for me is being in a space with people who love an artist’s music just as much as you do. the energy in the room in something so vibrant that its impossible to replicate it elesewhere. I have been to over 20 concerts in my life and I don’t plan on stopping anythime soon. One of the coolest out of the bunch was I got to see Chappel Roan on tour right at ther very start of her blowing up. She told us it was the biggest gig that she had played yet with people standing over bridges, blaconies and a full field of people. I love to record voice memos when I am at concerts so I have something to listen back to, I feel like this clip really showcases the pourpose of concerts: people andjoying music and having fun together.
