DS106 Finding Your Dream House (2 Stars)
Well…
Way before I knew about what I wanted to do in my future, I knew one thing: I needed to get out of Virginia. I have lived in the lovers’ state my entire life. I have been fortunate enough to travel to many diffrent states but always for a visit, never for a place to call home. I grew up in the small town of Woodbridge, where there was nothing. When I would take my friends from college to see my hometown, there were two options: the Potomic Mills mall, which I knew like the back of my hand, or my old high school. That’s it. For my dream house, I knew I needed to change my surroundings from honking horns and stagnant businesses to something more to my liking…
There is zero nature in Woodbridge. No animals besides an occasional deer (usually one that is run over), and more buildings and businesses than there ever were trees. It was during brainstorming in middle school that I set my heart on the Colorado. It was later, when I traveled with my best friend and her family to Colorado, right before she went to boot camp at the United States Air Force Academy, that I decided that this was the place for me. Instead of all the boring buildings and non-existent trees, this is more what my view looked like in the two weeks I was there:
When people ask me about my dream house, the answer is easy for me: one surrounded by nature in Colorado. When they ask me about the logistics of the house itself, like whether I want it to be three floors or how many rooms I want, I don’t have an answer for them. For me, a home is the setting, not the identity of it. I will be able to put as many things as I want in it and have the best company to share it with. No matter what kind of house I get, I know that I will be able to make it lovely and make it mine.
But since you asked, here is a picture of one that I found on Zillow:

It has all the nature in the world I could ever want. There is not a single building in sight, only trees. And I am almost sure that there is enough room for my cat, partner, and all of my books in there. Everything I love can fit; what more could I ask for? My days would be filled wth peace rather than the busy bustle of everything that Virginia offers for me. I honestly can’t think of a better way to be able to spend my days than in Colorado.
