Halloween Haunt Mazes, are they worth it?

For me, it’s never too early for Halloween. As soon as my birthday is done on September 12th, it is time to decorate for Halloween (sometimes even sooner if I am being honest). This past Friday, my partner and I were able to go to Kings Dominion’s opening night for their Halloween Haunt. I have been going to King’s Dominion since I can remember, since it’s been a favorite pastime of mine due to my love for roller coasters. During halloween time, Kings Dominion combines my two favorite things, roller coasters and Halloween!

Kings Dominion offers a lot of great events for Halloween Haunt, and my partner and I were able to try out all of them. During the daytime, Kings Dominion is a family-friendly experience with trick or treating for kids in their kids’ area, Snoopy Planet, while the rest of the park operates like normal. But once the sun goes down and the clock strikes seven, that is when the evil rises. Scare zones come to life, and haunted mazes open their doors to new victims and souls. This year, there sadly was a change, with the new Six Flags merger, it now costs money to be able to go into the mazes, even though every year up until now they have been free.

My partner and I bit the bullet and decided to pay the extra ten dollars for an unlimited haunt pass for the evening. Right away, we noticed something very diffrent from the usual family-friendly scary monsters with limited blood and more cartoonish creepiness. The monsters and mazes were actually scary! Now, don’t get me wrong, Halloween Haunt was scary before, but this was a whole new level. There were more monsters, gore, blood, and violence all around. Throughout the entire park and the mazes were covered in fog, alleyways were now smaller with fewer ways to peek around corners to see if there were monsters creeping around the corner ready to strike. This began to raise the question: was the ten-dollar charge really worth it?

I applied a sketching filter from Canva to make it look like it was made by one of the caricature drawings that you can pay for at the park! (And also for free, no charge necessary)

Surprisingly, we both agreed yes! We were not a fan of the Six Flags merger, but something we both didn’t consider was how Six Flags goes above and beyond for haunt, they are not people pleasers who want to make sure things are family friendly. Along with being scarier, the lines were also nonexistent for the mazes when we went because of the extra fee. Less time waiting and more time being scared? Sounds like a good time to me. If you are considering going to Halloween Haunt anytime soon at Kings Dominion, I highly suggest you buy these passes to get the best experience yet!
